Judie over at Gear Diary is sending back her HP iPAQ rx5915 without doing a review on it. It’s not often that I will just give up on a device, but the iPAQ has managed to evoke that reaction from me. Let’s just say that this is a huge difference from the days when I would try an iPAQ and quickly become enamored, and I am feeling the let-down. Ouch!
Among her pet peeves are the limited memory (only a quarter of the 2GB ROM is available as the rest is used up by TomTom Navigator 6 and maps), the lack of soft keys and one handed operation was impossible, too many stability and GPS issues, a squishy and unresponsive screen and still more. There were a few points in the hx5915’s favour (the 3.5-inch screen, compact size and built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) but not enough to convince Judie to complete her review.
Note: Judie was using a pre-production unit so hopefully HP irons out at least some of these issues before more reviews get published and completely bury the hx5900 series.
