Back in late 2005, I mentioned a company called TVMyPod that offered a service whereby they would sell you the iPod, any number of DVDs and then preload the content onto your video iPod before they shipped it to you. Somewhere along the road, the company either got bought out or changed its name to Load ‘N Go.
Now, Load ‘N Go is being sued by the Motion Picture Association of America which contends that the company is not licensed to sell DVDs and rip them to customers’ devices. The company’s web site is now unavailable as are email addresses and phone numbers.
Is this really a case of illegal activity or is the MPAA simply trying to force consumers to buy the same movie several times if they want it in different media?
