Dell has unveiled a new concept PC which simplifies upgrading to the point that if you know how to count up to 10, you can upgrade your computer. The Dell XCS (Extensible Computer System) concept comes with numbered slots that you fill with modules. Each component would be encased in a separate module and replacing or upgrading any would be as easy as removing the existing one and popping in a new one. Slots and modules would be shaped in such a way that you could not slide the wrong module into the wrong slot.
It’s not a new idea but one whose time will hopefully come soon (so that I don’t have to do all the upgrades in my family). But, like similar schemes in the past, success will be near impossible to achieve if this is yet another proprietary scheme.
