Toshiba has announced that it will begin to ship 100GB 1.8-inch hard drives next month. The new drive uses perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology and error correction code to cram an impressive 240.8 megabits per square millimeter (155.3 gigabits per square inch). The drive features two platters and 4 heads, offering an average seek time of 15ms and it spins at 4200RPM. Power consumption is rated at 0.003W/GB.
That shipping time seems to coincide quite well with MacWorld. Do you think a 100GB iPod is about to make its entrance?
