The Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) will hit North American stores on March 24. One million units will be available in the first week. For now, it will be sold as part of a “Value Pack” that will include the Spider-Man 2 game and some accessories.
The PSP comes with a 16:9 widescreen TFT screen (support 480×272 pixels resolution)and built-in stereo speakers and headphone connector. Keys and controls should be familiar to anyone who has used a Playstation 1 or 2. It will also have a USB2.0 port and support 802.11b wireless LAN access. It will also support the Memory Stick and 1.8GB Universal Media Disk (UMD) formats.
Pricing is expected to be $249 USD ($299 CDN). Just over 20 games are expected to go on sale at the same time with prices in the $40 USD range.
