Sony is following up on its promise that the PSP will be more than just a gaming system. Sony Pictures will release four movies for the PSP in mid-April. The announced titles are “XXX”, “Hellboy”, “Resident Evil 2” and “Once Upon a Time in Mexico”. These and future monthly releases will all come on the new UMD (Universal Meda Disc) optical format that the PSP uses.
The movies will be produced in 16:9 widescreen aspect ration – the same as the PSP screen. The press release promises that video quality will be as good that of regular DVDs. For added protection, a disc sleeve will be used. And to no one’s surprise, the discs will used an “advanced encryption technology” for content security.
