Lackluster sales of the iPod shuffle have resulted in a decline in Apple’s marketshare of the flash-based digital music player market. According to NPD Techworld, the shuffle’s US market share dropped from 58.2 percent in March to 52 percent in May.
Interestingly, this may force Samsung to release NAND flash chips originally intended for the shuffle into the market, potentially causing price drops in an already saturated market.
It is also expected that Apple will soon announce its summer lineup which could include new shuffle models.
