Korea plans to roll out free digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) for handheld devices like cell phones and PDAs by 2006. DMB allows for clear video and theater-like audio on handheld devices. DMB also lets devices to receive other types of data. Testing will be done this year in Seoul and the surrounding Kyonggi Province to iron out technical issues. As well, a number of challenges also remain and there are concerns around the commercial viability of the project.
